EDUCATION
Prior to running for the State Senate, Gustavo Rivera taught at Hunter College and then Pace University as a professor of Political Science. As an educator, Gustavo feels strongly that every child deserves a quality education. As a Senator, Gustavo Rivera has visited dozens of elementary, middle schools and high schools to talk to students, teachers and parents about community and education-related concerns. He also regularly teaches seminars on government and the importance of civic participation.
Accomplishments:
Helped secure over $300 million in State funding for Universal Pre-K for New York City.
Has fought for the state to pay the school’s in the 33rd Senate District the $131 million owed to them under the Campaign for Fiscal Equity Settlement.
Has been a strong supporter of CUNY and SUNY.
Advocated for struggling schools to get resources to become community schools so that students could have access to wrap around services that will help strengthen their academic performance.
Sponsored an array of educational programs, such as a Thanksgiving Day Creative Writing Competition, Summer Reading Program and a Earth Day Poster Contest.
